The female black widows inflict dangerous bites. They are larger and more noticeable than the males. The female rarely eat their mates. Black widows make cobwebs and are commonly called the cobweb spiders. They have poor eyesight and rely on their silk web to “see” what’s going on around them. Do not mess with black widows. Pretty but not nice.

Brown Widows look like the black ones with the red belly but are grey to brown in color with white and black markings on the top surface of their abdomen. The hourglass marking on the under surface of the abdomen is yellow to orange and the legs have dark bands. It’s one of the few North America spiders to be medically significant.

Wolf spider’s appearance are hairy arachnids and can grow up to 35mm in body and are commonly patterned in black, gray and brown hues. Their bite is not a significant threat to the average adult. All spiders have the potential to come indoors. These often scurry under gaps below doors and jump on people where they are then accidentally brought indoors. Creepiest of all, they are unique in the way they carry their eggs and carry their spiderlings on their backs, and they have 8 eyes arranged in three rows.

Brown Recluse are dark in color with a violin shaped mark on their dorsum. They dwell in many of the same dark, sheltered places as the black widows. They can be found in barns, homes and basements or crawl spaces. They are shy and rarely bite unless provoked. The bite can go unnoticed until its effects manifest a few hours later. Even the baby is venomous so immediate attention is necessary. Never wait when you think you have spiders.
